Passage Content
Rabbi Yose began to speak in honor of the hosts, and taught:
You shall not hate an Edomite,
for he is your brother.
You shall not hate an Egyptian,
because you were a stranger in his land.
This is an "ALL THE MORE SO" concept like how
the Egyptians befriended Israel, when they hosted them,
for their own benefit, as Pharaoh said to Joseph:
And if you know any able men among them,
then make them rulers over my cattle.
Here we see that the Egyptians treated the Jews
this way, so all the more so should one who hosts
a Torah scholar in his home, providing him with food
and drink and sharing with him one's possessions
without concern for personal gain, be treated this way.
