These verses are not a contradiction.
This verse which states that sons are punished
because of their fathers' sins refers to where
the sons retain their fathers' sinful practices.
Whereas this verse which states that sons are not punished
because of their fathers' sins refers to where
the sons do not retain their fathers sinful practices.
It is thus clear that a righteous son,
who does not follow the sinful ways of his father,
is not punished, for the sins of his father.
Accordingly how can you say that a righteous person
for whom things are bad is a righteous
person the son of a wicked person?
