The Righteous vs. The Wicked

View Mode

Passage Content

Why do you remain silent
when a wicked man swallows up
one who is more righteous than he?
Now is a wicked person able to swallow up a righteous man?
The wicked one watches for the
righteous and seeks to execute him.
God will not abandon him in his grasp

No evil shall befall the righteous.
The earlier verse must mean that a wicked person
can swallow one who is merely more righteous than himself,
But he cannot swallow one who is complete righteous
Another Answer: When the wicked person enjoys
good fortune the situation is different.
This means that a partially righteous person
should not content with a successful evildoer.
When we can contend with the wicked, it means
a partially righteous person is permitted
to contend with an unsuccessful evildoer.
