The forms of the letters MEM, NUN, TZADI,
PEY, and KAF were instituted by the prophets.
Question: But after the Revelation at Mount
Sinai no change may be made to the Torah.
So how could the prophets come and make
something new, like these new letters?
Answer: The letters MEM and SAMECH
of the Tablets stood in place only by a miracle.
This proves that these letters were
already in use in the days of Moses.
But they didn't know which form is used at the
beginning of the word and which at the end.
PEY, and KAF were instituted by the prophets.
