Chol Hamoed must defer to a Torah scholar,
i.e. if a Torah scholar dies on Chol HaMoed,
all expressions of grief are permitted,
even responsive wailing.
And certainly the strictnesses of Chanukah
and Purim are waived when a Torah scholar dies.
Here we see the honor of the Torah.
